Postdoctoral Position in Remote Sensing

The Department of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University invites applicants for a postdoctoral fellow position with Professor Chris Kummerow’s research group.  Professor Kummerow’s research group is pursuing research activities related to the development, maintenance and assessment of satellite intercalibration standards for passive microwave sensors, as well as advanced precipitation retrievals methods using a combination of radar, radiometer, and high resolution visible and infrared sensors.

This position will be based in Fort Collins, Colorado, where the successful candidate will develop innovative optimal estimation or machine learning methods for both instrument calibration as well as rainfall retrievals.

This position is funded by both NOAA, NASA, and industry for the purpose of creating accurate and stable hydrologic products used for climate monitoring.   To keep this activity going, the individual in this position will conduct research in these areas as well as apply new results from their own research to directly impact products.  The intercalibration work is based on Optimal Estimation retrieval methods in non-raining atmospheres, while the precipitation retrievals have focused historically on Bayesian methodologies but may expand to Neural Networks, Machine Learning or similar techniques in the future. To keep supporting a variety of U.S. satellite missions and data assimilation activities, the individual in this position will lead/support collaborative projects with other algorithm and data assimilation groups, as well as other institutions.

For complete position announcement details and qualification requirements, and to apply electronically, please visit http://jobs.colostate.edu/postings/75468

Applications will be accepted until the position is filled, however, to ensure full consideration, applications should be submitted by Sunday, March 15th, 2020 at 11:59pm.

Colorado State University is an EO/EA/AA employer and conducts background checks on all final candidates.
