Postdoctoral Associate Position in Atmospheric Science and Engineering at Cornell University
Applications are sought for two Post Doctoral Associates to join a vibrant and inter-disciplinary research team focused on atmospheric science and renewable energy applications. This second position is focused on simulations of wakes within and downstream of large offshore wind turbine arrays using meso- and micro-scale models. Specific responsibilities (and approximate effort allocation) include:
(40%) Conduct numerical simulations of wind farms wakes using WRF.
(30%) Conduct simulations of within wind farm wakes using microscale models.
(20%) Develop publication-quality research manuscripts.
(10%) Data archiving using best-practice data provenance procedures.
Successful applicants will hold a Ph.D. in atmospheric science, engineering or related subject. Familiarity with WRF is essential. Experience with microscale computational fluid dynamics models and high-performance computing, plus understanding of wind turbine wakes is desirable. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are also highly desirable.
Applications will be processed until position is filled but those received by 1 May 2020 will receive full consideration. The preferred start dates are 1 June 2020, but may be extended upto 15 August 2020 for exceptional candidates. The initial appointments will be for 1 year with the possibility of renewal. The selected candidates will be supervised by Professor Sara C. Pryor (Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, http://www.geo.cornell.edu/eas/PeoplePlaces/Faculty/spryor/) and will also collaborate closely with Professor Rebecca J. Barthelmie (Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, https://blogs.cornell.edu/barthelmie/). For more information, please contact Professor Pryor (sp2279@cornell.edu) or Professor Barthelmie (rb737@cornell.edu).
For full consideration, please submit a letter of application, a current curriculum vitae, a diversity statement of how, through research, teaching and/or service, the candidate can contribute to diversity, equity and inclusion in support of Cornell’s mission of “any person… any study”; and the names and contact information of three references to Academic Jobs Online.
