The USDA, Agricultural Research Service, Hydrology and Remote Sensing Laboratory in Beltsville, Maryland, is seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Associate (Research Physical Scientist, GS-11) for a Two-Year Appointment. Ph.D. is required. A one-page abstract of Ph.D dissertation, Resume/CV, and academic transcripts is also required. Salary is commensurate with experience ($72,030 to $93,638 per year) plus benefits. Citizenship Restrictions Apply. The incumbent will apply land surface and hydrologic models using satellite and aerial imagery for estimating evapotranspiration, soil moisture, runoff and infiltration and compare model output with ground truth data, and where necessary refine algorithms to reliably estimate water balance from row crops, with particular focus on vine and orchard plant and inter-row systems. The position requires a multidisciplinary approach in establishing working relationships with other USDA/ARS research centers, other government agencies and universities to analyze remotely sensed data. Knowledge of remote sensing, crop and hydrologic modeling, micrometeorology, image processing and computer programming are highly desirable.
