Tenure-track Faculty Position in Igneous Petrology, Department of Earth Sciences, Memorial University of Newfoundland

The Department of Earth Sciences at Memorial University of Newfoundland invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in the field of igneous petrology at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. We seek candidates with research expertise on the processes, accumulation rates, timing, and origin of igneous rocks - and their broader geological settings. A candidate would have strengths in one or more of the following areas: radiogenic and/or stable isotopic tracer studies; high­precision lithogeochemistry; geochronology; and mineral scale chemical and isotopic studies of igneous rocks, their minerals, melt inclusions, and glasses. The candidate should have expertise in analytical methods appropriate to their proposed research program, be a potential contributor and collaborative user of existing analytical instrumentation, and be willing to participate in the growth, development and rejuvenation of analytical infrastructure in the department (e.g., laser ablation ICP-MS/MC-ICP-MS, TIMS, SIMS). Candidates would be expected to deliver high-quality instruction of igneous petrology and allied courses at both introductory and advanced levels. Early career researchers are strongly encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Earth Sciences or a related discipline, a record of pertinent peer-reviewed publications, and the capacity to develop and lead an externally funded and analytically grounded research program involving undergraduate and graduate students. Potential for research collaborations with current Earth Sciences faculty in crustal geophysics, economic geology, geochemistry, geochronology, and/or mineralogy would be an asset.

The Department of Earth Sciences is one of the largest and most comprehensive in Canada, and offers undergraduate, MSc and PhD programs. The department currently comprises 22 active faculty members, including the NSERC-Chevron IRC Chair in Reservoir Characterization and Canada Research Chairs in both Marine Geology and Boreal Biogeochemistry, as well as 10 instructional and research support staff.
