DUTIES OF THE POSITION:  This tenure-track position requires specialized training in public health. The candidate must have training in or research experience and a research agenda focused on any of the following areas: epidemiology, analysis and modeling of "big data,” infectious diseases, environmental health, and/or public health surveillance. The department seeks candidates who will broaden the diversity of the faculty in quantitative research methods.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate ability to teach one or more core courses in the Health Sciences Major, as well as required and elective courses in the Concentration in Public Health. The candidate would also work with Department faculty as we seek accreditation of the degree. The successful applicant must articulate a clear research vision appropriate to the discipline, and demonstrate potential to contribute to an active program of scholarly or creative work, including evidence of productivity which reflects a coherent agenda. We prefer candidates who have experience in problem-based or case-based learning approaches.

Applicants should note that teaching assignments at Cal State East Bay may include courses at the Hayward, Concord, and Online campuses. In addition to teaching, all faculty have advising responsibilities, assist the department with administrative and/or committee work, and are expected to assume campus-wide committee responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:  The Department of Health Sciences seeks candidates who are aligned with its mission of building knowledge and skills necessary to practice in both population health and clinical settings. Candidates are required to have an earned health-related doctorate (e.g., PhD, DrPH, ScD) no later than the effective date of the appointment. The successful applicant must have a cogent research agenda, specialized training, and/or broad experience in any of the areas outlined above.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate either successful teaching experience at the university level or promise in this area. The undergraduate major in Health Sciences employs a new curriculum based on problem-based learning; the Department seeks innovative and enthusiastic candidates to help build on this pedagogical foundation. It also prefers candidates with experience in course design, curriculum development, blended learning, case-based instruction, and an ability to use technology as a teaching and learning tool.

Applicants must demonstrate a record of scholarly activity. Candidates must articulate a strong research agenda and should demonstrate potential to secure extramurally funded research.

Candidates should demonstrate experience in teaching, mentoring, research, and community service that has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate a record of scholarly activity.
