Graduate Research Assistant (PhD)
The Department of Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering at the University of Kansas (KU) is seeking a highly motivated individual interested in pursuing a PhD in the area of Hydrology and Water Resources starting Spring 2021. The successful candidate will conduct research on the role of land-atmosphere interactions in the intensification, persistence and recovery of drought and use this to improve global sub-seasonal to seasonal drought predictions. Experience or skillsets within any of the following will be beneficial: remote sensing, land surface modeling, computer programming (preferably Python and Fortran), and high performance computing. At a minimum the prospective student should have a strong interest in hydrology and land surface modeling and a desire to improve their computer programming skills. The prospective student will be part of the Computational Hydrology Research group at KU, which uses mathematical models and advance data analysis techniques in conjunction with high performance computing to analyze and apply large data sets to real world problems. This Graduate Research Assistant position currently has funding available for 3 years contingent upon continued academic progress.
