The Planetary Spectroscopy and Mineralogy Lab at the University of Hong Kong invites applications for PhD-student positions in multiple areas including: planetary science, astrobiology, deep biosphere research, and exploration for natural resources in space.

The precise subject of the thesis will be decided upon agreement between the candidate and the supervisor and will depend on the candidate’s interests and strengths, and the research interest of the group, which include hydrothermal activity, clay mineralogy, volcanology, deep biosphere, astrobiology  and more. We encourage applications from enthusiastic and self-motivated students who have demonstrated academic and research excellence in earth or planetary sciences, or a related discipline. Successful applicants will be supported in their application to the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPF) – a prestigious fellowship program (https://cerg1.ugc.edu.hk/hkpfs/index.html). Therefore the most competitive applicants will have a 1st class honours degree from a top university.

The position will be granted with a competitive salary.
