I am recruiting up to three PhD students to join my group in the Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) Department at FAMU-FSU College of Engineering beginning Fall 2021. Admitted graduate students will receive full tuition, stipend, and benefits.

The students will be primarily working on a funded project from Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) for development of a statewide decision support tool related to green infrastructure to address runoff and pollution mitigation in urban watersheds. Other projects in my group include impact of nonstationary stressors—climate and land use change as well as sea-level rise—on hydrology, water quality, and ecology, impact of coastal hazards on the resiliency of urban infrastructure systems, groundwater and surface water interactions, harmful algal bloom prediction using advance numerical methods and agricultural best management practices for runoff and pollution mitigation. Additional details about research activities in my group are provided in my website (https://www.nasrinalamdari.com/). Candidates should have a BSc and MSc in civil engineering, agricultural & biological engineering, environmental sciences, earth sciences or related field. It is expected that the candidates have strong computer programming skills (R, MATLAB, or Python), watershed modeling and geospatial analysis (e.g. GIS). Desired soft skills include strong communication, fast learning and the ability to work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team.

FAMU-FSU College of Engineering is a joint college between two public universities—FSU and FAMU—in the capital of Florida, Tallahassee. It is classified by Carnegie as an R1 rank (Doctoral Universities - Highest Research Activity). The CEE Department is home to Resilient Infrastructure and Disaster Response (RIDER) Center, which provides cutting-edge interdisciplinary research opportunities for graduate students. Tallahassee is also located within a short drive to multiple national parks and beaches, providing several opportunities for outdoor activities.

Highly motivated applicants should contact Dr. Nasrin Alamdari (nalamdari@eng.famu.fsu.edu) with their CV, unofficial transcripts, copy of TOEFL/IELTS scores (non-English speaking students) and a brief statement describing how their interests connect to my research areas. GRE scores are not required! Students may also visit CEE admission requirement at FSU Graduate Admission webpage to learn about requirements and application deadlines. Detailed graduate admission requirements can be found here. More information about Florida State University can be found at FSU webpage.
