The Institute for Carbon Removal Law and Policy (ICRLP) at American University (AU) invites applications for a full-time, postdoctoral researcher to join an ongoing project aimed at better integrating carbon removal into the Global Change Analysis Model (GCAM). This appointment is a one-year position and will commence on or around January 15, 2021 and run through January 15, 2022. A later start date is negotiable, and all ICRLP staff are currently working remotely.

The project team is led by Dr. David Morrow and currently includes one other postdoctoral researcher who is working on the project full time. The team has been working to increase the variety of approaches to carbon removal that can be represented in GCAM as well as enhance GCAM’s ability to model relevant policies.

The new postdoctoral research will work with Dr. Morrow and the current postdoctoral researcher to:

(1)  design, execute, and publish studies using ICRLP’s extended version of GCAM

(2)  help the team extend GCAM further to incorporate other approaches to carbon removal

The Institute for Carbon Removal Law and Policy is an interdisciplinary team committed to the assessment and advancement of sustainable approaches to carbon removal. The successful candidate will be expected, in addition to contributing to and producing research outputs, to contribute to the work of the Institute and the School by presenting research in progress and engaging graduate students working in related areas. We are seeking candidates who have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or during the 2020/21 academic year from an accredited college or university.

Qualifications

The successful candidate should have a PhD in economics, environmental science, public policy, or another field relevant to integrated assessment modeling of carbon removal technologies and practices. A background in integrated assessment modeling is highly desirable. Experience with data analysis in R and publishing in peer-reviewed journals are preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment are necessary.
