What you Will Do:

The Mentoring Program Lead oversees and functions as the primary contact for UCAR’s organization-wide employee mentoring program. Provides program management and oversight, including guidance on program resources, mentor/mentee training, budget tracking, coordination with entities, and communications with stakeholders.

This position will report to the Talent & Learning Development Manager in UCAR Human Resources. This is a half-time, term position for one year. There is a possibility of extending this position contingent on the success of the pilot program. This can either be a job share for an existing employee or a stand-alone position. For job sharing, a consistent schedule will be negotiated.

Responsibilities:

  • Serves as chair of the Mentoring Program Steering Committee
  • Coordinates with designated Entity Liaisons
  • Promotes the program organization-wide and encourage participation
  • Oversees communication of the program in collaboration with the Communication team
  • Trains or oversees training for both mentors and mentees
  • Provides ongoing coaching and support for both mentors and mentees
  • Ensures quality and accuracy of all communication and training materials
  • Responds to or fields requests or issues from mentors, mentees, and general staff
  • Reports and tracks on all mentoring activities
  • Develops and adjusts the program structure based on continuous feedback
  • Helps troubleshoot issues or conflict among participants, with support from the Steering Committee and Entity Leads
  • Coordinates with Program Evaluator on evaluation system structure, analysis, and reporting, and communicates with all stakeholders on progress and outcomes
  • Ensures the program is meeting established goals and objectives
  • In partnership with the Steering Committee, uses program evaluation data, industry best practices, and participant experience to evolve the program over time.

What You Need:

Education and Years of Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in organizational development, physical or social sciences, education, training & development, human resources management or a related field; and,
  • At least 3 years of professional experience leading programs.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field desirable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proven track record in successfully managing complex programs with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite and video conferencing platforms such as Google Meet and Zoom.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work activities and to handle multiple projects simultaneously with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong, culturally responsive interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of and experience with mentoring and coaching best practices. 
  • Good at focusing on details of work content, process, and deliverables.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training programs, particularly in a virtual environment.
  • Ability to gain trust and maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be comfortable and confident in an ambiguous and somewhat unstructured work environment.
  • Ability to work independently, taking initiative to identify and act upon opportunities for improved efficiency.
  • Ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy, and effectively manage conflict.

Desired

  • Experience working in a research or academic environment.
  • Formal training or education in mentoring and coaching best practices.
