USDA-ARS seeks a postdoctoral researcher to investigate soil nitrogen (N) dynamics of northeastern United States peatlands under different management regimes to inform watershed nutrient management in coastal landscapes heavily influenced by cranberry agriculture. Research led by the incumbent will evaluate nitrification and mineralization rates of peatlands in four management categories: (1) actively cultivated for cranberry, (2) previously cultivated for cranberry and fallow, (3) previously cultivated for cranberry and ecologically restored, and (4) natural peatlands without a history of cultivation. Incumbent will be expected to: develop manuscript on N transformation rates in active cranberry bogs, measure N transformation rates in cranberry bogs across management regime, and contribute to research on N budgets of peatlands. Knowledge of soil biogeochemistry, nitrogen cycling in peatlands, and experience conducting field work in peatlands are desirable. Send cover letter, CV, and references to Dr. Casey Kennedy, casey.kennedy@usda.gov.
