Postdoctoral Research Associate in Climatology and Paleoclimatology
The Paleoclimate, Paleobotany, and Paleomagnetism Laboratory at Baylor University (https://sites.baylor.edu/daniel_peppe/), in collaboration with the Climate Dynamics Group at the University of Texas at Austin (https://www.jsg.utexas.edu/researcher/kerry_cook/), is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher for an Office of the Vice Provost for Research Postdoctoral appointment at Baylor University.
What We’re Looking For
We seek an applicant with a strong background in paleoclimate, climate, hydrological, and/or ecosystem modeling and programming to contribute to a project aimed at understanding the regional climate dynamics that influence the formation and variability of Lake Victoria and its surrounding ecosystems from the Pleistocene to the present.
The position is a full-time postdoctoral appointment, beginning June 1, 2021, with the possibility of renewal for up to three years. Salary is $47,500/year, plus benefits.
Required qualifications:
• Ph.D., or completion of all requirements for Ph.D., by June 1, 2021, in earth/environmental sciences, climatology, atmospheric science, statistics, or a closely related field
• Experience working with numerical climate, paleoclimate, land surface, terrestrial biosphere, ecosystem, vegetation, and/or hydrological models, and ideally experience with paleoclimate models and data
• Proficient programming skills in data analysis and compiled languages (Python, R, MATLAB, C++, Fortran, etc.), and experience using multi-processor computers
• Ability to perform independent research and to collaborate effectively with an international team of researchers
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and a track record of research presentations/publications
