Graduate Student Opportunities in Geosciences
Department of Geology, Kansas State University
The Geology Department at Kansas State University invites applications for full-time MS students starting in August 2021. Admission to the program includes 2 years of financial support through research and teaching assistantships as well as scholarships. Graduate Research Assistantships (GRA) will be awarded on a competitive basis and include monthly salary, in state tuition waiver, and annual travel funding from department and university for conference attendance. Candidates should have at least an undergraduate degree in geology, geophysics, physics, engineering or in a related area with excellent analytical and writing skills. We are looking for highly motivated master students to conduct research in two areas: geophysics/geodynamics and engineering geology. For geophysics/geodynamics, the proposed research projects encompass topics such as volcanism, geodynamics, mantle convection modeling, processing and interpretation of geophysical data, and tectonics. For engineering geology, research at Porous Media Research Lab cover a variety of topics related to modeling flow and transport in porous media at different scales (from pore to field) by means of theory, data mining, and/or computer simulation (www.pmrlab.org).
Faculty research cover a broad spectrum of earth sciences, with strengths in tectonophysics, solid earth, hydrogeology, and energy.
