The Department of Geology at San José State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Earth System Science, with an emphasis on climatic change that integrates oceanography, coastal processes and human-environment interactions. Areas of expertise may include shoreline evolution and dynamics, paleoceanography, wetland or estuarine science, risk assessment associated with climate change, and impacts of human-induced modifications of the environment. A Ph.D. degree in the Earth Sciences is required. Experience in enhancing and promoting diversity and inclusion through novel teaching and research approaches is expected. A record of excellence in teaching or evidence of promise for excellence in teaching is expected. The successful candidate must have the interest and ability to teach Earth System Science, Geology and the Environment, and GIS, and will take a leadership role in teaching and curricular development of undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of expertise. Teaching non-majors is also expected. Research involving masters and undergraduate students is required, and external funding must be sought.
