W2 professorship (Jülicher Modell) in Experimental Methods for Atmospheric Radical Detection

The focus of this new professorship will be on experimental methods for atmospheric radical detection and atmospheric self-cleansing processes in research and teaching. Specifically, the new professor will lead activities in the development and application of instrumentation for atmospheric radical detection. The group of this professor will work closely with other departments at IEK-8: Troposphere, Forschungszentrum Jülich, with both experimental and theoretical ones that study tropospheric chemistry and its implications for air quality and climate. Collaborations with European and other worldwide partners should also be anticipated. The new professor must build on a set of strong accomplishments in the observation and interpretation of atmospheric radicals and their processes. He/she should be prepared to work with large scale infrastructures such as the SAPHIR atmospheric simulation chamber and have experience in the planning and coordination of comprehensive field and laboratory campaigns. The new professor is expected to show an excellent track record of internationally competitive research and leading third party projects.

The appointed person will also contribute to the teaching program (duty is two hours per week during term) at the University of Cologne, with lectures at both Bachelor’s and Master’s levels, as well as to the supervision of thesis projects (including PhD projects). Relevant teaching experience and commitment in the field of molecular physics is required.
