Position Summary

This is a full-time tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Environment & Sustainability. The teaching load is 21 credits per year (12 credits one semester, 9 credits the other semester). Assistant Professors also mentor students, maintain an active scholarship program, and contribute to service to the department and college. 

Minimum Qualifications

• PhD in Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, Geography, or related field by July 20, 2021. 
• Expertise in one or more of the following disciplines: Environmental conservation science, human-environment responses to global change, and/or North American indigenous natural resource planning and management.
• Ability and interest to teach multiple courses in the Department of Environment and Sustainability. 
• Ability to integrate methodologies from both the social and natural sciences in teaching. 
• Demonstrated record of environmental scholarship. 

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability and interest to teach the following courses: Introduction to Environmental Studies, Introduction to Environmental Science, and upper-level courses in Research Methods, Senior Capstone, and applicant’s area of expertise.
• Ability to teach field-based courses and to use experiential strategies in the field and classroom. 
• Publications, manuscripts, conference presentations, or public-facing outreach that utilize social and natural science methods. 
• Ability to mentor undergraduate research. 
• Interest to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary program and with other departments on campus to provide inclusive and holistic learning experiences. 
• Experience working with indigenous communities.
• Online teaching experience.
• Working knowledge of GIS and/or remote sensing.

Major Responsibilities

• Teach introductory courses in Environmental Studies and Environmental Science as well as upper-level courses in Research Methods, Senior Capstone, and area of expertise.  
• Maintain an active scholarship program  
• Mentor undergraduate research   
• Perform service-related activities within the department and the college. 
• Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success; work with broadly diverse communities. 
• Maintain knowledge and awareness of digital accessibility including the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 508. 
• Produce and remediate digitally accessible materials in accordance with FLC standards. 
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Compensation

Salary is $59,000, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
