The USDA, Agricultural Research Service, Pasture Systems and Watershed Management Research Unit in University Park, Pennsylvania, is seeking a POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (Hydrologist), GS-11, for a TWO YEAR APPOINTMENT.  Ph.D. is required. Salary is commensurate with experience ($62,236 - $74,596 per annum) plus benefits. Citizenship restrictions apply. Research led by the incumbent will employ a multiyear dataset on water isotopes (δ18O and δD) in precipitation and stream water to link temporal variations in stream water age with nitrogen losses in a headwater agricultural watershed that is part of USDA-ARS’s Upper Chesapeake Bay Long-term Agroecosytem Research (LTAR) network. Expected results include: (1) documenting how stream water age controls nitrogen concentration and export patterns in agricultural watersheds with persistent groundwater nitrogen legacies, and (2) informing efforts to characterize lag times between the implementation of nutrient management practices and changes in water quality. Knowledge of hydrology, isotope geochemistry, agricultural water quality, and nutrient management are desirable. Send application materials and references to Dr. Anthony Buda, USDA/ARS, Building 3702, Curtin Road, University Park, PA 16802 or Anthony.Buda@usda.gov
