The University of Delaware (UD) School of Marine Science and Policy invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scholar position in marine ecology and oceanography. The position is available immediately. The successful candidate will work on understanding the impact of ocean current structures on the movement patterns of marine predators across multiple scales, using geophysical models, satellite oceanographic data, and biologging data from marine predators. This is an interdisciplinary project, led jointly by biological oceanographer Matthew Oliver, marine ecologist Aaron Carlisle at the University of Delaware and physical oceanographer Helga Huntley at Rowan University. The postdoctoral scholar will make use of state-of-the-art visualization and computing facilities in Matthew Oliver’s Ocean Exploration, Remote Sensing and Biogeography (ORB) Lab, and is expected to lead first-authored publications and give presentations at relevant conferences. The postdoc may also participate in associated field efforts which include animal tagging and robotic deployments in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Qualifications:
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in marine ecology, oceanography, or a closely related field, with demonstrated strengths in analysis of large data sets, multivariate and/or spatial statistics, or other relevant quantitative skills.
Additional Information:
The position will be located at the Lewes Campus of the University of Delaware in Lewes, Delaware. The initial appointment will be for one year, with continuation pending performance and funding for up to a total of three years. Please contact Dr. Matthew Oliver (moliver@udel.edu) for additional information.
