Talented and motivated students are invited to apply for an NSF-funded graduate research assistantship (GRA) position, starting in Fall 2021 or Spring 2022 at the University of Tennessee (UT), Knoxville, to pursue for a doctoral degree in environmental science with a focus on food-energy-water nexus in urban systems. This GRA offers a highly rewarding opportunity to perform transdisciplinary data-driven research on UT campus and at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), which is 25-mile away from UT. The successful candidate will be working with a multidisciplinary team of leading urban environmental scientists at UT and ORNL and have ample opportunities to collaborate with international scientists from many countries during the study period. Candidates who are interested in environmental data science, simulation and modeling, and sustainability issues are preferred. Experiences in computer programming and data analytics, for instance, Python, Matlab, LabView, and web programming (JSON, HTML5, and JavaScript) are desirable. Candidates should have excellent verbal and written communication skills and are self-driven. For application, a brief statement of research interests and motivation for pursuing a Ph.D. in environmental science and a curriculum vitae including degrees obtained, courses taken, articles published, research/services conducted, and contact details of two academic references should be submitted to Dr. Jie (Joe) Zhuang by e-mail (jzhuang@utk.edu) as soon as possible.
