Job Details

Northland College is a private, liberal arts college with a progressive focus on the environment, sustainability, and social justice. Founded in 1892, Northland College is located in far northern Wisconsin, on the southern shore of Lake Superior near the Apostle Islands. From the bedrock foundations of the Midcontinent Rift System to the Quaternary-sculpted glacial terrain and dynamic watershed evolution ever since, Northland provides an unparalleled living laboratory and natural playground for college educators interested in place-based and experiential learning.

Northland is currently inviting a diverse pool of qualified educators to apply for a full-time 1-year visiting professor position in Geoscience, with a possible extension for a second year, beginning in August of 2021. The Geoscience Program includes separate majors in Geology and Water Science, and is associated with affiliate programs Climate Science, Geographic Information Systems, Natural Resources, and Chemistry. The successful candidate will teach six courses per year that primarily support the Geology and Water Science programs, with possibility for supporting other affiliate programs, depending on the expertise and background of the applicant. Such courses may include Introduction to Physical Geology, Geology of the Lake Superior Region, Introduction to GIS, Geomorphology, Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Geochemistry, and others.

The successful candidate must be a dynamic educator dedicated to the liberal arts, and have a demonstrated ability to help students at all levels understand and appreciate the far-reaching influences of earth systems and processes. The College provides equal opportunity for all qualified persons regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, or veteran status. People of color, women, and others who would provide diverse perspectives to our College are encouraged to apply for this position.
