The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Beltsville Agricultural Research Center (BARC), Hydrology and Remote Sensing Laboratory, in Beltsville, MD, is seeking a permanent full-time Research Ecologist/ Soil Scientist/ Agronomist/ Physical Scientist. The salary for this position is $103,690 - $159,286 per year plus benefits. U.S. citizenship is required. The mission of the Hydrology and Remote Sensing Laboratory is to conduct nationally oriented basic and applied research on the use of remote sensing in addressing water and soil resource concerns related to the production of food and fiber, climate change and the conservation of natural resources.

The incumbent will develop remote sensing methods and coordinate ground measurements for retrieving quantitative information about crops and soils at local, regional, national, and global scales. The ideal candidate has experience planning, designing, and conducting critical research on highly complex challenges faced in evaluating and integrating the effects of climate, plant and soil characteristics, and management on agricultural production and the environment. The incumbent will work collaboratively with scientists from other USDA-ARS laboratories to provide broad technical leadership in planning, designing, and conducting critical research on highly complex challenges faced in evaluating and integrating the effects of climate, plant and soil characteristics, and management on agricultural production and the environment. Analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of findings will be done in the form of reports, presentations, and publications in scientific journals.
