MBARI seeks a Research Technician to assist with the management of data from biogeochemical profiling floats as part of the Global Ocean Biogeochemistry (GO-BGC) and Southern Ocean Carbon and Climate Observations and Modeling (SOCCOM) arrays.  The selected candidate will work closely with MBARI research staff to monitor incoming and outgoing real-time data streams, track float and sensor performance, as well as maintain, develop and enhance data processing code.  The position will include routine data quality control, including the building and/or maintenance of visualization software.  The individual should have a background in oceanography and strong programming skills.  Proficiency in MATLAB is required.  Programmatic knowledge of Python, javascript and html is also desired, as is experience with version control systems and working with NetCDF data files.  

A Master’s degree in a scientific or engineering discipline or equivalent is required. A basic understanding of oceanographic sensors and experience with statistics and analysis of large datasets is desired.  Familiarity with the global Argo program is a plus.  Must have strong communication and organization skills and the ability to work with diverse groups of people. The position may include travel to scientific meetings.

This is an externally funded position, which may be renewed annually up to five years, depending on job performance and continued funding.
