Postdoctoral Position in Remote Sensing for Cloud and Precipitation Processes

The Department of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University invites applicants for a postdoctoral fellow position with Professor Christine Chiu’s research group. Professor Chiu’s research group is pursuing research activities related to 1) the development of advanced retrieval methods for clouds, precipitation, and aerosols, using a combination of radar, lidar, and radiometer from both surface- and space-based platforms; and 2) process-level understanding of cloud-aerosol-precipitation-radiation interactions using new retrievals.

This position is funded by Department of Energy for developing an innovative, synergistic retrieval method for cloud and precipitation, aiming to advance our process-level understanding of cloud microphysics and precipitation formation. The work is based on an iterative Ensemble approach, but may expand to neural networks, machine learning or similar techniques. The individual in this position will conduct research in these areas as well as apply new results to constrain cloud processes and improve their parameterizations in models. This position will provide the individual an excellent opportunity to engage with many exciting and cutting-edge research activities in the Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) and Atmospheric System Research (ASR) community.

This position will be based in Fort Collins, Colorado.
