Post-doctoral Fellow in Tectonics in the Department of Earth Sciences (Ref.: 504198)

Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow in Tectonics in the Department of Earth Sciences (Ref.: 504198), to commence as soon as possible for two years, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Geology or a closely related field. Applicants should have research experience in one or more of the following disciplines: structural geology, tectonics, geodynamics, geo-/thermo-chronology, petrology, Earth and/or planetary system science. We actively seek group members from diverse backgrounds. Broader disciplinary backgrounds may be considered if applicants can use their skills to develop and test tectonic concepts.  The appointee will conduct tectonics research with projects devised independently and/or in collaboration with members of the HKU tectonics team. Our present research projects explore development of early Earth and hot terrestrial planets; Himalayan tectonics in Earth system science context; surface salt tectonics; and structural projects with societal impact (e.g., induced seismicity, groundwater dynamics). Consistent with these diverse projects, our group has similarly diverse research interests, skills, backgrounds, nationalities and gender.  Enquiries about the post should be sent to Dr. Alex Webb at aagwebb@hku.hk.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.

The University only accepts online application for the above post.  Applicants should apply online at the University’s careers site (http://jobs.hku.hk) and upload an up-to-date C.V. and a one-page brief research proposal. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted for recommendation letters from referees.  Review of applications will commence as soon as possible and continue until July 7, 2021, or until the post is filled, whichever is earlier.

The University is an equal opportunities employer and is committed to equality, ethics, inclusivity, diversity and transparency
