Job Details
Stanford University’s Earth System Science and Computer Science Departments are hiring two full-time postdoctoral scientists with expertise in remote sensing, geospatial analyses, computer sciences, the oil and gas sector, and/or biogeosciences to (a) Lead the construction of a public database of global methane source infrastructure (including oil and gas wells and related facilities, landfills, and other infrastructure) by aggregating and integrating multiple disparate datasets; (b) Work closely with computer vision researchers to develop and validate AI-based satellite image-derived methane source databases, and integrate them into the aggregated database; (c) Conduct geospatial data analyses and visualizations of the database. Social computing, crowdsourcing, and uncertainty estimation will be used as part of a human-in-the-loop design for ensuring high-quality data records. Successful candidates will contribute to Stanford’s multi-year AI for Climate Initiative (https://stanfordmlgroup.github.io/programs/aicc-bootcamp/) and the Global Carbon Project (globalcarbonproject.org). Project investigators include Rob Jackson (jacksonlab.stanford.edu), Andrew Ng (https://www.andrewng.org), Michael Bernstein (https://hci.stanford.edu/msb/) and others to provide a reference database for source attribution of methane plumes identified from satellites and aircraft.
Send a CV, statement of research, diversity statement, and the names and contact information for three references to: rob.jackson@stanford.edu and colinfinnegan@stanford.edu.
