The Climate Physics Group at UC Davis and LBNL is seeking an ambitious and creative postdoctoral scholar to study how water vapor affects small-scale convective storms, as well as large-scale climate dynamics. Research topics may include: how does the buoyancy effect of water vapor influence low clouds and associated climate feedbacks, and how does the buoyancy effect of water vapor affect deep convection and tropical precipitation? The successful candidate will also be encouraged to pursue their own innovative ideas that further our understanding of water vapor and climate change.

The successful candidate will work closely with Prof. Da Yang and will be partly supported by an NSF CAREER Award. The primary appointment will be at UC Davis; a guest affiliation with LBNL can be arranged if desired.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities:

• Develop testable hypotheses to better understand interactions between water vapor, clouds, atmospheric circulations, and climate change

• Perform numerical simulations and analyze observations to test hypotheses

• Present results at conferences and seminars

• Publish results in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals

Salary range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Anticipated start: The start date is flexible, but the position will become available as soon as Oct. 1, 2021.

Position duration: The position is for 1 year initially, renewable for an additional 2-year period contingent on satisfactory progress and funding availability..

Percent time: 100% (full-time)
