Tenure-Track Position in Environmental Science/Contaminants , Rowan University Environmental Science Department, School of Earth & Environment

The School of Earth & Environment at Rowan University seeks to fill one Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) position starting September 1st, 2022 in the recently established Department of Environmental Science. We seek outstanding candidates who hold a Ph.D. in Environmental Science or a closely related discipline, such as biology, chemistry, marine science, atmospheric science, or geoscience. Successful candidates are expected to develop and maintain an active, highly visible, extramurally funded research program with outstanding scholarship and to demonstrate excellence in teaching and mentoring both graduate and undergraduate students.

We seek candidates focused on asking big picture, global questions. International collaborations and international field sites are desirable.  The successful candidate will be engaged in the scientific study of rapid, worldwide environmental change, related to the climate crisis and/or the biodiversity crisis, and will be a passionate advocate and effective communicator on environmental issues.

We are particularly interested in scholars who are focusing on environmental toxicology, environmental chemistry (ex: the introduction, transport, and effects of contaminants, such as marine and coastal plastics or atmospheric pollutants), and genomics or multi-omics responses to environmental change, as related to climate and/or biodiversity. We are also especially interested in scholars who use Big Data and advanced visualization techniques in their work to frame and better understand multiple, simultaneous environmental crises.

Scholars hired in the School of Earth & Environment will have superior communication skills, will have demonstrated a deep commitment to sharing their science with the public, and will possess a passion for advocating for, and advancing solutions to the climate and biodiversity crises. As part of teaching and outreach, SEE faculty are encouraged to develop community science and teaching experiences in the nearby Edelman Fossil Park & Museum and affiliated Scotland Run Park. We are seeking dedicated agents of change, and a willingness to work with governments, NGOs, and industry to solve real-world problems is desired.

The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. by Sept. 1, 2022 and will have demonstrated early success at research and publication. Postdoctoral experience is a plus. A commitment to excellence in teaching and to communicating science to the public is a necessity.
