Position description

The UC San Diego School of Medicine (SoM), School of Global Policy and Strategy (GPS), Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO), and Halıcıoğlu Data Science Institute (HDSI), are searching for one or more postdoctoral fellows to conduct research on aerosol-driven diseases, with a focus on Kawasaki Disease (KD) and KD-like illnesses. The fellow(s) will join an interdisciplinary team at UC San Diego working to understand the connections between biological aerosols, their environmental drivers, and incidence of KD both locally in the greater San Diego region and globally. Fellow(s) will be given a research budget and office space, and will be invited to participate in seminars and scholarly activities across these campus divisions. Though not required, fellows will have the option to teach one or two topical data-science related classes during their appointment.

We are seeking exceptional candidates with experience in integration and analysis of disparate types of high-dimensional data (e.g., patient records, atmospheric data, genetic analysis data), a track record of creative thinking, and a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and communication. Comfort with programming and statistical analysis of either environmental data or genetic/medical data are essential, as is a willingness to generously learn and teach within and across the disciplinary boundaries of our collaboration. The illnesses under study disproportionately affect certain subsets of the population, and so we also seek candidates who are passionate about environmental and health justice, in addition to espousing a commitment to excellence through diversity within the university.

All applications received by September 30, 2021 will receive full consideration. Review of applications will continue until the positions are filled. Postdoc positions will normally start January 1, 2022. Positions are normally for two years. Appointments and salary are commensurate with research experience and accomplishments following current UC San Diego guidelines.

Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

PhD in a relevant environmental or health science field (including but not limited to: data science, environmental science,, atmospheric science, health informatics, genetic analysis, etc. ) and a research track record in the relevant domain by the start of appointment.
