The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) (http://cee.usu.edu) and the Utah Water Research Laboratory (UWRL) (http://uwrl.usu.edu) at Utah State University (USU) (http://www.usu.edu) invite applications for a tenure eligible faculty position in Groundwater Engineering. We anticipate hiring at the tenure track Assistant Professor level, but exceptional candidates at the Associate or Full Professor levels may also be considered. We seek candidates whose research will generate data-driven, collaborative, sustainable, and holistic solutions to water quantity, quality, and management problems involving groundwater, in the face of growing population, aging infrastructure, changing climate, and changing societal values. This position will build on USU’s existing strengths in water resources and environmental engineering. This position will be a 9-month, tenure track, academic appointment with an anticipated start date of August 2022.

We seek candidates who can significantly contribute to scholarship and teaching in the broad topical area of groundwater engineering. The successful candidate must have a strong understanding of subsurface hydrology, the physics of groundwater flow and transport, modeling of groundwater flow, and/or remote sensing of groundwater. Research areas for the successful candidate may include, but are not limited to, local and regional-scale groundwater dynamics, surface water-groundwater interactions, impact of climate variability on groundwater resources, and/or subsurface transport of groundwater contaminants. As part of the UWRL, the successful candidate’s research should have application in addressing groundwater problems in the state of Utah. Candidates must articulate a vision for and show how their research and teaching will: 1) yield data-driven, collaborative, sustainable, and holistic solutions; 2) leverage existing strengths at USU in hydrology, hydraulics, hydroinformatics, water resources management, geotechnical engineering, irrigation, water quality, and environmental engineering; and 3) improve CEE and USU capabilities to solve interdisciplinary water problems now and in the future. We seek candidates who promote diversity in education and research and have experience with a variety of collaboration, research, teaching, and curricular perspectives.
