Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The University of North Carolina Wilmington Center for Marine Science and Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography seeks a post-doctoral researcher interested to improve understanding of wave transformation and hydrodynamics on rocky shorelines. As part of a multi-institutional team, funded by the Office of Naval Research program, “ROXSI: Rocky Shores Experiments and Simulations,” this post-doctoral project will conduct, analyze and improve upon coupled wave spectral (SWAN) and circulation (ROMS) numerical models applied to rocky shorelines. We invite applications from candidates with expertise in numerical modeling, applied mathematics, physical science, or physical oceanography.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
PhD in Physical Oceanography, Physics, Engineering, or Applied Mathematics required or a closely related field. 

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Expertise in at least one of the following areas: 

  • Ocean hydrodynamic and/or wave modelling
  • Nearshore ocean in situ and/or remote sensing measurements
  • Analysis of numerical methods
  • Experience with coding in MATLAB or Python, and FORTRAN

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The Center for Marine Science at UNC Wilmington is dedicated to basic and applied research in the fields of oceanography, coastal and wetland studies, marine biomedical and environmental physiology, and marine biotechnology and aquaculture. 
 

The Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography is engaged in elementary particle and theoretical physics research, as well as a range of research in physical oceanography and coastal ocean engineering.
