Full-Time Position

Annualized Salary: $99,285.89

Serves as the technical lead and directs complex groundwater investigations that involve computer-based models that simulate flow, quantity, quality, and/or optimization of the conjunctive use of groundwater and surface water; Develops, organizes, schedules, and prepares budgets for programs necessary to carry out the development and maintenance of the EAA’s computer-based modeling efforts; Collaborates with and receives inputs from the supervisor on matters related to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy positions; Collaborates as needed with the supervisor, Executive Director, General Manager, and EAHCP staff and associated committees on matters related to modeling through, recommendations, presentations, or technical reports as needed; Participates in the establishment and achievement of short and long-range goals related to modeling and aquifer science research, including assessment of the impacts of climate change; Monitors progress made on related short-term and long-term modeling and research plans/projects that impact operations; Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility; Provides the public with technical presentations regarding the EAA’s mission and activities as requested; Supervises staff; Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.


Bachelor’s degree in geology, hydrology, engineering, or a closely related field plus a minimum of ten years of progressive responsibility of which at least three years must be performed in a managerial capacity; or Master’s degree plus minimum of eight years of progressive responsibility of which at least three years must be performed in a managerial capacity; or Ph.D. degree plus minimum of six years of progressive responsibility of which at least three years must be performed in a managerial capacity; Mastery of advanced concepts, principles, and practices of groundwater hydrology and numerical modeling of groundwater systems, and ability to substantially modify or create new modeling methods using the latest developments in numerical modeling of groundwater systems; Demonstrated advanced knowledge of geology and hydrogeology procedures and practices, especially those related to karst aquifers; Demonstrated knowledge and research experiences integrating groundwater/surface water interactions, vadose zone processes, and/or climate change effects into conceptual and numerical models of groundwater; Ability to explain complex technical aspects of various studies in non-technical terms to the public; Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments; Strong research and analytical skills; Outstanding oral, written, time management and organizational skills; Ability to exercise initiative, independent judgment, and responsibility; Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle.
