Job Details

The Department of Geological Sciences at California State University Long Beach is looking for a motivated, inquisitive, and independent M.S. student to collaborate on enhanced geothermal field experiments.  The student will join a world-class research project at the Utah FORGE site involving injection testing monitored by fiber optic distributed acoustic sensing.  The best fit would be a student in the earth sciences interested in both hydrogeology and geophysics.   The hydrology program at CSULB has a long history of using geophysical methods for understand fluid flow in fractured bedrock.

CSULB is located in Southern California, a few miles from the beach and a short drive to Los Angeles.  The research assistantship begins Fall 2022 and provides a stipend and covers the cost of tuition and fees for two years of attendance, assuming good progress.  Please contact Dr. Matthew Becker, Professor of Geological Sciences and Conrey Chair in Hydrogeology, at matt.becker@csulb.edu if you are interested in joining our team of geologists, geophysicists, and engineers

We are committed to fostering an equitable, diverse, and inclusive research environment. We encourage applications from members of groups that have been underrepresented in and/or historically excluded from geosciences research.
