Northwestern University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Instruction in the Environmental Science Program. We seek an open-field environmental scientist to coordinate and teach Geographical Information Systems courses with lab components, and a selection of R, python, remote sensing, and advanced seminars courses on topics of expertise. We are especially interested in candidates with expertise in inter-disciplinary sub-fields of environmental science spanning the natural and social sciences, and who have dimensions of conservation, management, sustainability, or environmental equity in their expertise. Responsibilities include: teaching six quarter-length courses annually; program building; and collaborating with Environmental Science students and faculty. This is a benefits-eligible, full-time, non-tenure track appointment starting September 1, 2022. Ph.D. is required by the start of the appointment. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated experience working with diverse student communities.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, contact information for three recommendation writers, and a teaching portfolio, which includes teaching interests and philosophy, sample syllabi, and teaching evaluations (as well as other evidence of teaching effectiveness) directly through our application portal. Complete applications will begin to be reviewed January 5th until a final candidate is identified. Inquiries about the search may be directed to Professor Patricia Beddows, Program Director, environment@northwestern.edu.
