The Department of Biological, Geological, and Environmental Sciences at Cleveland State University is looking for one or more motivated MS students to collaborate on research projects that address some interlinked environmental issues such as nutrient dynamics, harmful algal blooms, and hypoxia in Lake Erie and other Great Lakes. The research projects will use in-situ measurements, numerical modeling, and paleolimnological methods to better understand the inter-relationships between phosphorus loading, algal productivity, and hypoxia rate (frequency, areal extent, and duration). Students with interest in water quality, chemistry, biology, geology, limnology, or oceanography are encouraged to apply. The research assistantship may begin as early as in the upcoming spring semester, which provides a stipend and covers the cost of tuition and other fees for two years. Interested students are encouraged to contact Dr. Fasong Yuan, Professor of Environmental Earth Sciences at to learn more about the research projects.

Cleveland State University is an urban campus serving a racially, culturally, and economically diverse student body. We encourage applications from members of groups that have been underrepresented in and/or historically excluded from environmental science research.
