The University of Victoria invites applications for the position of Executive Director of the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions (PICS), to take office on November 1, 2022 or as soon thereafter as possible.

PICS was established in 2008 with a $90 million endowment from the Government of British Columbia. The Institute is hosted and led by the University of Victoria in collaboration with Simon Fraser University, the University of British Columbia and the University of Northern British Columbia. The Institute’s main office and the Executive Director are located at the University of Victoria, with site coordinators at each partner university.

PICS develops impactful, evidence-based climate change solutions through collaborative partnerships that connect decision makers with experts from BC’s four leading research universities and beyond. PICS is also tasked with translating research results into knowledge suitable for aiding decision-makers beyond those directly involved in PICS funded projects who must deal with adaptation and the development and application of alternative, low-carbon technologies.

The Executive Director leads the Institute and fulfils its mission by interacting, communicating and linking with a wide range of audiences, from leaders in climate change research to the general public. The position oversees the strategic, programmatic and administrative activities of the Institute.

We are looking for a strong results- and action-oriented individual who is driven by a genuine desire to make a contribution to climate solutions that will help transform British Columbia and beyond, into a vibrant, low carbon economy and climate change adapted society. The ideal candidate will be a recognized and respected expert in a research or policy field related to climate solutions, with experience leading interdisciplinary teams and reaching out to a wide variety of audiences. The term of the position is for five years, renewable for an additional five years.
