The Geophysics Section, School of Cosmic Physics, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS) invites applications for an Assistant Professorship position in Seismology. 

We seek an innovative and visionary seismologist with expertise in any area of seismology. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and grow their own research programme whilst forming collaborative proactive relationships with other researchers and research programmes in the DIAS Geophysics Section, where appropriate.

The development of strong international research connectivity is a key requirement. This is a research-focused position with no formal teaching duties. There is an expectation that the work will be communicated to a broader audience, outside the research sphere.  

The position is based in a vibrant location in Dublin city centre. It comes with a fully funded PhD studentship and access to significant computational and field equipment resources (both terrestrial & marine) in addition to administrative and technical support.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in seismology (or a related discipline), and likely several years postdoctoral or junior faculty experience. They will have demonstrated research creativity and broader proactivity in the research groups in which they have worked.

Established in 1940, the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies is a Government-funded research Institute. DIAS is a globally embedded institution that attracts scholars and academics from around the world.  It conducts and publishes advanced research across three disciplines: Celtic Studies, Theoretical Physics and Cosmic Physics. DIAS also leads Ireland’s participation in a number of international research endeavours that focus on big unanswered questions for humankind.

The Geophysics Section at DIAS operates the Irish National Seismic Network (www.INSN.ie) and owns a significant pools of mobile seismic, magneto-telluric terrestrial and marine (www.imarl.ie) equipment.

Duration: Full time. Permanent.

Salary:  €55,506 to €87,728 (PPC scale). New Entrants to the Irish public service will be appointed on the minimum point of the scale.   A lower scale will apply where the appointee is an existing civil/public servant recruited before April 1995 and not paying a Personal Pension Contribution.

Qualifications:  PhD in seismology or related discipline.
