Postdoctoral Position in High-Pressure Mineral Physics at Princeton University
The Department of Geosciences at Princeton University has an opening for a postdoctoral or more senior researcher in the area of experimental mineral physics. The project will involve experiments to determine atomic-level structures, equations of state, phase transitions and other properties with applications to understanding the behavior of materials under extreme conditions and their implications for planetary interiors, including exoplanets. The project will use gas guns and high-powered lasers to dynamically compress materials to conditions of extreme pressure, temperature, and strain rate combined with diagnostics such as in situ X-ray diffraction, laser interferometry, and optical spectroscopy. The candidate will be responsible for designing and conducting experiments as well as data analysis and modeling. While the position is based in Princeton, experiments will largely be carried out at remote facilities.
Qualifications include a Ph.D. in Geosciences, Physics, Materials Science or a related field. The successful candidate will be creative and self-motivated with strong hands-on experimental skills and analytical ability. Experience in dynamic or static high-pressure techniques is highly desirable. Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment is essential.
The position is available for one year, with a possibility for renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance and funding. Inquiries can be sent to Prof. T. Duffy (duffy@princeton.edu). Applications including a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a publication list, and contact information for three references can be submitted through the Princeton University Academic Hiring website at https://puwebp.princeton.edu/AcadHire/position/26301. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
This position is subject to the University's background check policy.
