The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Northeast Area (NEA), Hydrology and Remote Sensing Laboratory (HRSL) in Beltsville, Maryland is seeking a POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE, (Research Physical Scientist; GS-1301-11) for a TWO YEAR APPOINTMENT. Ph.D is required. Salary is commensurate with experience ($74,905 to $97,430 per annum) plus benefits. Citizenship restrictions apply.
This position affords the opportunity for the scientist to:
- Use a remote sensing-based surface energy balance modeling system to investigate spatiotemporal patterns in water use (evapotranspiration, ET) and vegetation indices (VI) over USDA-ARS Long-Term Agroecosystem Research (LTAR) sites as well as high value perennial nut and fruit crops in California,
- Evaluate how these patterns relate to changes in land-use, land-management, and climate,
- Integrate ET and VI datasets into decision support toolkits for managing irrigation and monitoring agroecosystem health and productivity.
The position requires a multidisciplinary approach in establishing working relationships with other USDA/ARS research centers, government agencies, and universities to analyze remotely sensed data. Knowledge of remote sensing, crop and hydrologic modeling, micrometeorology, image processing and computer programming are desirable, as is a familiarity with machine learning and Google Earth Engine programming.
Send cover letter to CV, and references to Dr. Martha Anderson at Martha.Anderson@usda.gov. U.S. citizenship is required.
