Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at San Diego State University to conduct research on advanced optical spectroscopic techniques to evaluate anthropogenic contamination of riverine and coastal environments. The Scholar will also contribute to real-time water quality monitoring using a fluorescence-based sensor platform, ground-truthing of real-time data with advanced laboratory analytical techniques, and synthesis of large data sets. Applicants should be active researchers who are motivated to develop research ideas, and publish and disseminate research outcomes.

The successful candidate will develop advanced optical spectroscopic techniques, design field experiments using real-time water quality monitoring with a fluorescence-based sensor platform, synthesize large data sets using statistical techniques and data analytics, conduct water quality analyses, and write manuscripts and extramural funded proposals related to the research.

Full-time, temporary position with a one-year appointment renewable for a  second year depending on research progress. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Start date is flexible and may begin as early as Aug 1, 2022.
