Assistant or Associate Professor in Hydrology

The Department of Geography at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver Campus, invites applications for a tenure-stream faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor specializing in hydrology. Applicants should have an interest in watershed science and management of relevance to British Columbia with expertise in catchment hydrology, ecohydrology, hydroclimatology, hydrogeomorphology (including hillslope processes), or urban hydrology that complements existing departmental strengths. In particular, we encourage applications from scholars: (1) who demonstrate innovative approaches to understanding the interactions between climate change, land use and watershed processes; and (2) whose research has a strong field component.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in the fields of earth and environmental sciences, and an outstanding record of publications relative to their stage of career, and a proven record of excellence in teaching.  Those considered for Associate rank must have a track record of effective graduate level supervision. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active program of research, teaching, graduate supervision, and service. Candidates hired into tenured positions must be approved by the appropriate Geography Promotion and Tenure Committee and the university’s Senior Appointments Committee before the appointment can be tenured. 

 The anticipated starting date for the position is July 1, 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter, dependent on immigration and travel restrictions.

Teaching statement (1 page) describing your teaching philosophy and evidence of teaching effectiveness Statement (up to 1 page) identifying your past contributions to equity, diversity and inclusion, along with your ability to work with a culturally diverse student body (use specific examples where possible); as well as your philosophy of, and potential future contributions to equity, diversity and inclusion.
