The Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Bonn, together with the Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH, hereby invites applications for a

W2 Professorship “Soil systems modelling” according to the Jülich model

to be appointed at the earliest time possible.

The new professorship should strengthen the DFG Cluster of Excellence PhenoRob (www.phenorob.de) by developing mathematical methods for the coupling between soil processes, automatic soil monitoring on different scales and soil functions, and contribute to the research topic digital bioeconomy at the Institute of Bio- and Geosciences, IBG-3 Agrosphere.

Experience in at least one of the following research areas is desired:

  • Modeling of soil processes at different spatial and temporal scales; Analysis of multidimensional multi-parameter datasets of soil structures and soil states; Development of mathematical approaches, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, that couple soil structures, soil processes, and soil function at different scales.

The professorship will represent the above-mentioned field in teaching and research. The acquisition of third-party funds is expected.

Conditions of employment are in accordance with § 36 of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia.
