Langmuir Laboratory for Atmospheric Research (at New Mexico Tech) invites applications for a permanent, full-time Research Engineer/Scientist to start in late 2022 or early 2023. Successful candidates are expected to conduct and support scientific research on instrumentation, lightning, thunderstorms, and lightning protection. Duties include designing, constructing, and debugging custom instrumentation with applications in atmospheric sciences and atmospheric electricity. Maintaining, upgrading and operating existing instrumentation in support of local and remote field programs is also needed. The fitness to work for sustained periods in difficult weather and at high altitude is required. The position requires a BS or equivalent degree in physics, electrical engineering or atmospheric science and broad experience with custom scientific instrumentation. Advanced degrees in any of the above fields are preferred. Much independence is granted in this position and applicants with advanced degrees are welcome to act as PIs and attract additional salary with up to 50% of their time.  (see supplementary pdf for more information about position, application procedure and work environment)
