The Institute of Marine Sciences at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a post-doctoral scientist with a focus on ecosystem modeling of coastal wetland restoration and nature based decarbonization, under the joint direction of Dr. Adina Paytan at UCSC and Dr. Zelalem Mekonnen
at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). The post-doctoral scientist will use established ecosystem models to investigate how different coastal wetland restoration options and climate change will affect wetland carbon balance.
The position will be based at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, CA and will work closely with other LBNL and UCSC researchers.

Applicants with experience or expertise in the following areas are strongly encouraged to apply:
• Experience in mechanistic modeling of ecosystem processes
• Experience with processes related to carbon cycling
• Strong mathematical and numerical modeling skills
• Strong written and oral communication skills with significant motivation to publish in peer reviewed literature
• Strong interest in team-based interdisciplinary science, with the willingness and ability to work independently when required

Basic Qualifications: Ph.D. (or equivalent foreign degree) in earth science, climate science, ocean science, ecosystem modeling, ecology, or a related field. It is expected the degree will be completed at time of application, but no later than August 30, 2022.
