The Department of Geography & Planning at the University of Toronto, St. George Campus, invites applications for a full-time Teaching Stream Appointment in the area of Physical & Environmental Geography. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, beginning July 1, 2023.

We are particularly interested in candidates whose scholarship includes climate and environmental change associated with human activities.

Candidates must have earned a PhD degree in Physical Geography or related field by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter. Candidates must demonstrate teaching excellence and have experience teaching at the university undergraduate level (including lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, and development of online and in-person material/lectures). The successful candidate will be expected to teach core courses across a range of fields in our Physical & Environmental Geography programs, including Soil Science, Biogeography, Geomorphology, and Field Methods, among others. The successful candidate should also have experience leading both large- and small-classes at lower- and upper-levels of the undergraduate program. Expertise in both lab- and field-based work is a requirement. The successful candidate may have the opportunity to lead graduate courses and/or supervise graduate students.

Additionally, candidates must possess a demonstrated commitment to excellent, novel, and impactful pedagogical methods and a demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities.

Evidence of excellence in teaching and a commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry should be made apparent in a teaching dossier which provides a strong teaching statement and outlines teaching accomplishments, grants, awards, accolades, presentations at significant conferences, sample syllabi, and teaching evaluations, as well as strong letters of reference from referees of high standing.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
