Applications are invited for a Research Scientist position in the Department of Earth Sciences with a joint appointment at the Arthur L. Irving Institute for Energy and Society. We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative individual to engage in a range of research activities with the overarching goal of directly removing and sequestering atmospheric carbon dioxide on land and/or in the ocean. We are especially interested in those who have studied water-rock-microbe interaction, marine gel production and carbon cycle, or weathering reactions towards increasing ocean alkalinity. The person in this position will work with Professor Mukul Sharma and engage across the Irving Institute for Energy and Society.

The selected candidate is expected to begin as soon as possible.  The initial duration of the position is two years. This is a full-time non-tenure-track appointment. Please note that Earth Sciences also has openings for a postdoctoral fellow and for an Assistant Professor of Environmental Geochemistry.

The Department of Earth Sciences, the Arthur L. Irving Institute for Energy and Society, and Dartmouth College as a whole, are highly committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive population of students, faculty, and staff.  We are especially interested in applicants who are able to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from all backgrounds, including but not limited to: racial and ethnic minorities, women, individuals who identify with LGBTQ+ communities, individuals with disabilities, individuals from lower income backgrounds, and/or first-generation college graduates.  Our labs regularly host students participating in undergraduate diversity initiatives in STEM research, such as our Women in Science ProgramE. E. Just STEM Scholars Program, and the Academic Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (ASURE).

Applicants for this position must have a PhD in Earth Sciences or equivalent with at least one year of postdoctoral experience.
