M.S. and Ph.D. positions in the Graduate Program of Hydrologic Sciences

The Graduate Program of Hydrologic Sciences (GPHS) is a multi-disciplinary program based at the University of Nevada, Reno and the Desert Research Institute (https://www.unr.edu/hydrologic-sciences).  The 60 year-old program has a long history of graduate education and cutting edge research in a variety of water-related fields.  The program plans to recruit and fund graduate students using research assistantships from individual faculty, research assistantships from the graduate school, and teaching assistantships.

• Elizabeth Koebele will be recruiting a student to study water policy issues in the Colorado River Basin (https://www.unr.edu/political-science/people/elizabeth-koebele).

   

  Markus Berli and Gabrielle Boisrame are recruiting a motivated Ph.D. student interested in studying the impact of fire on the hydrology of a sagebrush ecosystem (https://www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/showAward?AWD_ID=2148788&HistoricalAwards=false).

   

  Joanna Blaszczak is recruiting a Ph.D. student to investigate hydrologic and biogeochemical controls on cyanotoxin production in rivers (https://www.unr.edu/nres/people/blaszczak-joanna).

   

  Adrian Harpold (https://www.unr.edu/nres/people/harpold-adrian) will be recruiting a student to study water storage in mountain basins as part of the Critical Zone Collaborative Network (https://www.unr.edu/nres/people/harpold-adrian).

  Kaitlin Keegan is recruiting a doctoral student for an NSF-funded project investigating firn densification and microstructure at Taylor Dome, Antarctica (https://www.unr.edu/geology/people/kaitlin-keegan).

   

Reno, Nevada has a high quality of life as the only urban center on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada mountains.  This provides access to cultural and city life, but also easy access to outdoor recreation in the Lake Tahoe area.
