We are inviting applications for two Ph.D. student positions for Fall 2023 in small-scale geophysical numerical modeling of the atmosphere/ocean system to work with Prof. Xuanting Hao at the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE), Jacobs School of Engineering and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) at the University of California, San Diego.

The candidates are broadly expected to work on physics-based and data-enabled modeling of air-sea processes, including but not limited to boundary-layer turbulence, wave breaking, and spray generation. The candidates will have the opportunity to collaborate with researchers in both MAE and SIO.

Qualifications: Applicants should hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Engineering, Geosciences, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related discipline.

Financial Support: Financial support includes stipend and tuition/fee waiver in the form of Fellowship, Graduate Student Researcher, and Teaching Assistant. Details on benefits can be found at https://shwadmin.ucsd.edu/uc-ship/index.html.

Students are encouraged to apply for external fellowships and awards:
