School/Department Name: Geology

Short Ad:

The Department of Geology at San José State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in any area of Structural Geology/Tectonics (e.g., tectonic evolution of orogens, structural analysis of basins, arcs, subduction complexes, and fault and/or shear zone processes). Scholars with expertise in field and other observational or analytical techniques (e.g., geochronology, remote sensing) are especially welcome to apply. A Ph.D. degree in the Geosciences/Earth Sciences is required, postdoctoral experience is desirable, and a proven record of excellence in teaching or evidence of promise for excellence in teaching is expected. Research should complement departmental strengths in active tectonics, applied geology, and field geology. Applicants should include a two-page statement of teaching interests and experience, a two-page statement of the candidate’s experience and/or future plans to promote equity, inclusion, and diversity in their teaching and research, and a two-page statement describing the candidate’s plans to engage undergraduate and MS students in research. Experience in enhancing and promoting diversity and inclusion (for example, through novel teaching and research experiences) is an asset.  Applicants should demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience. A more detailed description of the job and teaching responsibilities may be found at: (https://jobs.sjsu.edu/en-us/job/519433/assistant-professor-structural-geology-tectonics). Submit all application materials by Nov. 14, 2022 for full consideration. Inquiries may be directed to the Department Chair, Dr. Jonathan Miller at jonathan.miller@sjsu.edu.
