Dorian Abbot (UChicago) and Jonathan Weare (NYU) are seeking a postdoctoral fellow to apply rare event sampling methods to hurricane simulation in order to improve simulation and understanding of the rarest and most intense hurricanes, both in the present and future climates. This position will involve both algorithm development and implementation on a high-resolution, cloud-permitting model of hurricanes. The successful candidate will have a strong background in applied mathematics and high-performance computing and a PhD in applied mathematics, atmospheric or climate science, or a related field. The salary will be $55K plus benefits. The position will be hosted at the University of Chicago, but the successful applicant can be primarily based either at the University of Chicago or New York University. The position is expected to be for two years, with reappointment for the second year conditional on performance.
