Visiting Assistant Professor in structural geology and tectonics

The Colby College Department of Geology invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position specializing in structural geology, tectonics, and/or related fields to begin July 1, 2023. The successful candidate will teach a sophomore-level structural geology and tectonics course in the fall. Other teaching duties may include a junior-level elective in the candidate’s area of specialty and/or participation in our introductory curriculum for a total of four course equivalents during the academic year. Our ideal candidate will be able to offer field study of deformed rocks and tectonic processes in Maine. The successful candidate will have no-cost access to a wide range of instrumentation and equipment for research and teaching including a SEM-EBSD-EDS-CL system, micro-XRF, powder-XRD, ICP-OES, micro-CT, petrographic and binocular microscopes, and rock and sediment processing equipment. The search committee is especially interested in candidates who can teach and mentor a diverse student population. A Ph.D. at the time of appointment is preferred, but ABD candidates will be considered.
